On the evening of November 30, the final of the 4th Probationers’ Union Contest of  School of Teacher Education was successfully held in the concert of Guangyue Building in Xianlin Campus. The final invited Cheng Ping, Tang Zhengang, Shen Haoning, associate professors of School of Teacher Education in Nanjing Normal University, Zhou Ping, full-time counselor to national minority of Nanjing Normal University and senior high school Physics teacher and Ma Yin, vice director of office of education and research of Jinling Primary School in Nanjing as judges and Wang Xin, secretary of the Youth League Committee, Guochao, counselor of grade 16 and Wang Tianrui, counselor of grade 17 as guests. The contest was hosted by the Youth League Committee of School of Teacher Education of Nanjing Normal University and organized by the Academic Development Center. The aim of the contest was to provide a platform for students of grade 16 to communicate，discuss and show themselves and to enable students in School of Teacher Education to have a deeper understanding of teacher's profession and to lay a solid foundation for future on teacher’s position.

After the contestants were fully prepared, the final of Probationers’ Union Contest officially began. The contest was divided into two parts. In the first part, according to the order determined by drawing lots before the contest, each contestant had seven minutes to conduct a one-minute VCR display and six-minute simulation teaching. After the contestants showed, the judges asked questions and graded according to the contestants' answers. Scores would be released after the first part. The second part was the scene play. According to the order determined by drawing lots before the contest, students were divided into groups. Two students in each group played two roles respectively and simulated a teaching situation for 5 minutes. After the performance, the judges would comment on it.

 

In the course of the contest, ten contestants gave serious answers，performed confidently and showed good professional quality. Zheng Yang, a student of Chemistry normal major, took the chemistry experiment on the stage,. He explained the principle of chemical reaction in simple language, and brought a very interesting chemistry lesson to the audience. Ma Linjie, a student of Biology normal major, designed an experiment to simulate the formation of protective coloration, which emphasized both theory and practice, simplified the complexity and clarified the structure. Jinyang, a student of chinese language and literature normal major, recited Facing the Sea, Spring Flowers by Haizi with indifference and sadness in happiness, which was very moving. Finally, Shen Fan, a student of Mathematics normal major ignited the whole audience with a simple and fast-paced VCR, arousing the atmosphere and inspiring people. After the first round of contest, the lottery was held. Subsequently, the results of the first round were announced. Xiu Xinyan took the lead with 90.2 points for the time being.

In the second round of scene play, the contestants were more than skilled on the stage, each group of performances was an immersive experience of high school campus life. Five groups of contestants performed excellently with humor, showing five situations that are easy to appear in actual teaching and conveying a profound understanding of the teaching concept.

After the two rounds of contest, Mr.Tang Zhengang expressed his feelings about watching the contest. First of all, he spoke highly of the excellent performance of the contestants and affirmed their rich teaching methods and high professional quality. Then Mr.Tang put forward several suggestions: first, teachers should keep up with the pace of the times, pay attention to the diversity of teaching forms, and constantly innovate teaching methods in accordance with the reality; second, teaching questions should be not only professional, but also life-oriented; third, teachers should ensure the complexity of teaching content and enhance students' thinking level and adjust the teaching mode at any time according to the actual teaching situation. Mr.Tang's comments gave contestants and spectators a clearer and more reasonable understanding of the teacher's profession. The students listened and thought carefully. They deeply agreed with Mr. Tang.

 

After the speech, the results of the contest were officially announced. Xiuxinyan, a student majoring in mathematics and applied mathematics (normal) in grade 16, won the laurel and the first place. Lin Yaling and Shen Fan won the second prize. Yu Shujing, Ma Linjie and Jinyang won the third prize and Zheng Yang, Zhou Mengfei, Zhou Qingwen and Chen Jie won the honorable mention.

 

The contest stimulated the enthusiasm of the students of School of Teacher Education and created a good learning atmosphere. The contest not only helped the students of Grade 16 to strengthen their teaching ability and professional quality, but also provided direction guidance and experience for the students of Grade 17 to help them clearly position themselves and move forward. May all the students of School of Teacher Education strive for excellence, strive to improve their abilities and perfect themselves, show the charms of teachers, and unswervingly advance towards the goal of future people's educators!
