The “Red Candle” Teenage Volunteer Association of the School of Teacher Education Successfully Held Its Teaching Activity at Phoenix Book Mall
On the afternoon of December 16th, volunteers from the School of Teacher Education went to Phoenix International Book Mall to carry out their “Red Candle” teaching activity. The event lasted thirty minutes, during which the voluntary teacher led the children to get closer to the animal world and have a deeper understanding of different animals’ living habits. It not only expanded their knowledge but also cultivated their abilities of discovering and thinking.

Before the class began, volunteers prepared and debugged the equipment well with the assistance of the book mall working staff. With everything in place, the teacher introduced basically the contents of the activity to the parents and children present and the assistant teacher led students to their seats.
The teacher began from lovely pandas and introduced the living habits of pandas, penguins and polar bears successively. She also set a questioning part, which consisted of questions such as “What’s pandas’ favorite food?” and “What do pandas look like?”, to encourage children to answer questions actively and get involved in the class interaction. All the kids had wonderful performances. At the end of the class, the teacher also urged them to develop awareness of caring the animals.

The “Red Candle” teaching activity at Phoenix Book Mall is a long-term voluntary activity co-organized by the School of Teacher Education and the Phoenix Book Mall. The volunteers exploited their advantages to the full and acquainted the children with different aspects of life so as to activate their interest in exploring different things. We hope the volunteers would have still better performance in the following classes.
