On the afternoon of May 10, the 2018 May 4th commendation conference and the “Inheriting the 100th May 4th” youth poetry of Nanjing Normal University was grandly held in the east lecture hall on the second floor of Jingwen library of Xianlin campus. Hu Minqiang, the Party secretary of Nanjing Normal University, attended the ceremony. Deputy secretary of the Party Committee of each college, secretary of the Youth League Committee of each college and award-winning representatives attended the meeting.

 

In the solemn national song, the 2018 May 4th commendation conference and the “Inheriting the 100th May 4th” youth poetry of Nanjing Normal University started. On the conference, Sun Youlian, the standing member of the school Party Committee and vice chancellor first read out the "May 4th commendation list", including "the Red Flag Youth League branch, excellent League branch secretary, ten outstanding young students, outstanding teachers League cadres, Red Flag Youth League Committee, the Communist Youth League outstanding contribution award and many other awards.

 

Among them, the Youth League Committee of the School of Teacher Education won the title of "Red Flag Youth League Committee". The Youth League branch of 1701 won the title of "Red Flag Youth League branch". The Youth League branch of 1702 and 1703 won the title of "characteristic Youth League branch". The teacher, Guo Chao, won the title of "excellent teacher cadre", and the student Jin Yang won the title of "excellent Youth League branch secretary". The 1701 Youth League branch then demonstrated to the teachers and students present the election of the active applicants. In 2018, the Youth League Committee of the School of Teacher Education closely adhered to the characteristics of teachers, implemented the "1+2+3 working method", constantly expanded the connotation of the education service for League members of Normal University students, and had made remarkable achievements. Over the past year, the League members of our school have been awarded 148 person-times above the provincial level, 34 collective awards of various kinds, and have been awarded with honors such as "one hundred model Party branches for graduate students", "May 4th Red Flag Youth League Committee of Jiangsu Province", "advanced class collective of Jiangsu Province", "provincial outstanding team award for social practice activities ", and "outstanding contribution award for the school's Communist Youth League". Up to now, Youth League Committee of the School of Teacher Education already obtained "Red Flag Youth League Committee" title 3 times, "Communist Youth League outstanding contribution award" title once. This year obtained "Red Flag Youth League Committee" title again. This is the greatest affirmation to the work of the League Committee of the School of Teacher Education. As grass-roots league branches, 1701, 1702 and 1703 actively responded to the call of the school League Committee, focused on their majors, never forgot their original intentions, and strove to strengthen the construction of Youth League members.

 

In the following part of "salute to the dream", school leaders presented awards. Meanwhile, representatives of top ten outstanding young people and outstanding teachers shared their feelings and stories.

 

Then, the host read out "proposal" and led all the students to review the pledge. Then Hu Minqiang, the Party secretary of the university , delivered a speech. He traced the history of the May 4th movement, fully affirmed the role of young students in history, encouraged the participants to adhere to the dream, study hard, and at the same time hoped that the college organizations and young students make persistent efforts and continuous innovation.

Finally, the "inheriting the 100th May 4th" youth poetry  began in the passionate music and recitation. Each college had brought a wonderful performance. Judges and teachers presented grade and award on the spot. The atmosphere was pushed to the climax by the poetry meeting, and everyone's heart was filled with strong patriotic feeling.

 

Melodious school songs sounded, the conference was near the end. The congress ignited the patriotic feeling in everyone's heart.

 

The activities inside the venue were so wonderful, so were the activities outside the venue. The communist youth league work outfield display of "Inheriting the 100th May 4th" was also holding in full swing in Jingwen Square. The theme of the first booth of the faculty of teacher education was "gathering the spirit of May 4th". Cultural and creative products of the "May 4th" special class and league activities were displayed on the booth for everyone to appreciate. Students could also write their thoughts on the May 4th youth day on the postcards designed by the College of Teacher Education. The theme of the second booth was "youth setting sail -- flying the ideals of youth". On the exhibition stand were the special cultural and creative products of "May 4th" youth day of the New Media Center of the College of Teacher Education and excellent works of Xing Zhi Lu. The excellent works of "three words" by the students were praised by Hu Minqiang and other school leaders. In the subsequent interview with the reporter of Nanjing TV station, Zhang Yuruiyang, a student of the school of teacher education, introduced the characteristic interactive project of "three words and one language" of the school to the reporter. This exhibition closely followed the theme of commemorating the 100th anniversary of the "May 4th movement", and displayed the elegant demeanour of academic atmosphere, social service, campus culture, innovation and entrepreneurship culture, network media culture and other aspects.

 

Patriotism, progress, democracy and science are the precious spiritual wealth left to us by the May 4th movement. New era, new journey, under the call of the Chinese dream, every youth should contribute their own strength to it. During the time of national crisis, the advanced youth in the period of the May 4th movement composed a song of eternal praise for youth with their warm blood and passion. In the historical opportunity of realizing the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, Chinese youth in the new era should grasp the baton passed by their ancestors, carry forward the May 4th spirit and write a brilliant chapter with the spirit of youth. Hopefully, the students of the College of Teacher Education will be able to carry forward the May 4th spirit in the new era, deeply understand the connotation of the May 4th spirit, strengthen the study of the time value of the May 4th spirit. Let the May 4th spirit radiate a more dazzling light of The Times!
