On the afternoon of April 24^th, the experience-sharing meetings about applying for schools overseas and preparing for postgraduate entrance exams, sponsored by the Chinese Communist Youth League Committee and supported by the Academic Development Centre, were successfully held in Classroom 510(for overseas study) and Classroom 508, 507(focusing on liberal arts and science respectively).

First came the communication about experience and thoughts of applying for schools overseas,whose sharers included Huang Yuwei, majoring in Chinese Education, Xia Zijie, majoring in Maths Education and Shen Ye, majoring in English Education. Combining their experience with specialty characteristics, they explained in detail in terms of preparing for the IELTS, preparing and delivering materials and choosing agencies to the students present. In addition, Huang Yuwei also shared her trick of keeping an English diary to overcome her fear towards writing English compositions; Xia Zijie encouraged all the students to believe in themselves and never give up easily by citing his being turned down four times as an example while Shen Ye reminded that anyone with the idea of studying abroad should start striving for high scores in the IELTS as early as possible and also offered some advice on how to raise the scores. The students benefited a lot from their sharing.

 

At the end of the going-abroad communication, the experience-exchanging meeting about preparing for the postgraduate entrance exams began in full swing. In order to provide more pointed and specific suggestions, the meeting was divided into two sessions, one for liberal arts majors and the other for science majors. Those speakers in the liberal arts session were represented by Hu Ziyi, majoring in Primary Education, Liu Meiyi, majoring in History Education, Liang Yajie, majoring in Ideological and Political Education and Fu Hui, majoring in Chinese Education while those in the science session included Zhang Miao, majoring in Physics Education, Zhang Aiyue, majoring in Biology Education, Sun Jiajia, majoring in Chemistry Education and Jiang Tianyi, majoring in Maths Education.

 

In the very beginning of the meeting, the host introduced the purpose of the activity and the attendants briefly. And then the speakers took turns to explain the details of the postgraduate entrance exams, including the motives of sitting the exams, choices of schools, procedures of exams, suggestions for revision and so on. According to their subject features, the speakers shared their experience and ideas of the exams and they also put much emphasis on the choices of revision methods and attitude adjustment of the later period. Sun Jiajia pointed out that one should get away from distractions, be more practical and never fall into formalistic study, making revisions more efficient and meaningful. Towards those who are hesitant and diffident, Zhang Miao proposed that blind anxiety can’t help since the preparation period will be very long; one has to adjust and make a balance between study and rest. Finally, the students raised questions accordingly and the speakers answered patiently.

These meetings are rich in content and value, offering experience for the students with similar pursuits and providing reliable suggestions. It is believed that through the meetings, students can have a clearer idea about the goals they are heading for and have a better plan for their future study. The road ahead is long and has no ending; yet high and low I will search with my will unbending. We hope that all students can overcome the hardships and keep going on, harvesting joy of success in struggling and striving.
