The Sixty-sixth Forum on Academic Innovation in Teacher Education was successfully held.
On June 18, 2024, students of Grade 23 Subject Teaching (Biology) were welcomed to a wonderful academic sharing session. Professor Zhang Yingchun, a deeply influential expert in the fields of science education, biology education and teacher education research, introduced in detail to the future biology teachers the new concepts, new requirements and new challenges facing the teaching of the current junior high school biology curriculum. Professor Zhang encouraged the teachers to continue to explore and innovate in their teaching practice in order to adapt to the rapid changes in education.
Professor Zhang began by stressing the importance of understanding the new curriculum standards, and she believed that the connotations of core literacy was the key to guiding students' all-around development. She pointed out that teachers need to have a deeper understanding of the new curriculum standards so that they can better develop students' critical thinking and problem-solving skills. During the sharing, Professor Zhang explained in detail how to shift from "lesson time" to "large unit" in instructional design. Through her explanation of the definition of large unit and the analysis of specific cases, students gained a deeper understanding of the path from the text to the practice of this curriculum standard.
Then, from the requirements of the standards, Professor Zhang proposed that the teaching mode should be changed from single knowledge teaching to organizing diversified practical activities, which is more helpful for students to have a deeper understanding and application of biological knowledge.
She also highlighted that a change in assessment habits is equally important. Education should not only focus on the single achievement of students, but also pay more attention to the overall development of students. Teachers should actively change the concept of evaluation and integrate teaching evaluation into teaching design, in addition to mastering a variety of evaluation techniques is also necessary.
Professor Zhang's sharing caused a great response among teachers and students. Students who are about to enter the ranks of teachers said that the lecture deepened their understanding of biology teaching and made them realize that as a teacher, they need to keep learning and adapting to new educational concepts and methods.
